Psychology Technicians from Medical Trends targets mental health professionals who assist psychologists with research and patient care.

Research psychology technicians assist in the design and implementation of a research study.  They collect data by conducting interviews and making observations.  They perform data entry, statistical analysis, library research.  They recruit participants for the study, and they administer neuropsychological tests.  A research technician will aid in the preparation of reports and presentations.  They work with psychologists in private or group practice, universities, private industry, or government and use a variety of software testing programs.     

Psychology technicians who assist in patient care deal directly with patients with emotional or mental disorders.  They are employed at in-patient facilities under the direction of a psychologist or psychiatrist, and they work with the facility's doctors and nurses to ensure patients' physical well-being.  Job responsibilities include recording vital signs, facilitating individual or group therapy sessions, de-escalate situations when patients become violent or suicidal, assisting patients with personal hygiene, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.  Psychology technicians must be able to physically restrain a patient when necessary, so they must handle high stress situations, be tolerant, emotionally mature and stable, compassionate, non-judgmental.    Confidentiality in this field is essential.       

Many in this group are married or live with a partner; they are raising children or enjoying their grandchildren.  Blended families are common.  They typically hold a mortgage and drive mid-range cars.  Many have an auto loan or car payment and trade in their vehicle every five to six years; they carry balances on their credit card.  They are internet savvy and enjoy electronics such as laptops, notebooks, smart phones, iPads, iTouch, ipods, and Blackberries.  Professional and social networking are accomplished through social media sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook.  They utilize on-line banking and bill paying.  They search the web to find information on parenting, homework help, vacation destinations and ways to balance work and home demands.  They enjoy movies, music, video games, sports, social causes.  This group is concerned about their physical fitness.  They strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating right, exercising, and taking vitamin supplements.  They may have a gym membership, run, or bike.  They may take martial arts, yoga, spin, Zumba or other exercise classes.
