DESCRIPTION
Foundation of Surgeons targets physicians, MD’s, who specialize in performing surgery on patients in an effort to diagnose, treat, and cure diseases and medical conditions. Surgeons meet with patients after they are referred by a primary care physician who see a need for surgery to treat medical conditions. Surgeons are highly trained medical professionals. Surgeons spend most of their time in an operating room (OR), either at a hospital or outpatient surgery center. The non-surgical time is typically spent in an office setting for the pre- and post-operative patient visits and consultations.
Surgeons are generally part of larger teams. In the operating room, they rely on an anesthesiologist to keep the patient asleep and stable. Surgical nurses assist the surgeon by monitoring the surgical site, passing the surgeon tools as required, and performing other tasks. Surgeons may also work with other surgeons, and in a teaching hospital they will work with interns and residents, showing them how to perform surgical procedures.
Using a variety of instruments, and with patients under anesthesia, a surgeon corrects physical deformities, repairs bone and tissue after injuries, or performs preventive surgeries on patients with debilitating diseases or disorders. Although a large number perform general surgery, many surgeons choose to specialize in a specific area. One of the most prevalent specialties is orthopedic surgery: the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. Others include neurological surgery (treatment of the brain and nervous system), cardiovascular surgery, otolaryngology (treatment of the ear, nose, and throat), and plastic or reconstructive surgery. Like other physicians, surgeons also examine patients, perform and interpret diagnostic tests, and counsel patients on preventive healthcare.
Healthcare professionals must express a high degree of empathy for others. In addition to medical and healthcare knowledge, they must also be strong in communication, leadership, organized, detail oriented, and critical thinking. Some medical service providers may work to promote general health by educating the public on warning signs and symptoms of health related problems.
These seasoned professionals embrace healthcare with diversity, equity, and try to achieve a work/life balance. They look to achieve a deeper knowledge in their field. Also by using career advancement resources such as online continuing education or certificate programs, social networking sites to make personal and professional connections, attending trade shows, and networking at industry events, these professionals achieve a deeper knowledge in their field.
This list is ideal for any medical or health care industry continuing education courses, medical supplies, business publications, office supply catalogs, uniform catalogs, insurance, and credit card offers.
