Business Development Officers from Hospitals Trends targets executives responsible for attracting new customers, penetrating existing markets, and establishing partnerships within the community to grow business and serve patients better.  Business Development managers continuously refine and refocus the hospital’s business development plan.  With input from other top executives, they design, develop, and implement strategic goals, philosophies, policies, procedures, and systems for the healthcare facility.  These goals may include acquiring practices, merging hospitals, and building physician referral channels.  They also increase market share by directly marketing to patients to drive them in; examples include offering heart disease screenings to build downstream cardiac business or holding joint pain classes to build orthopedic visits and surgeries.  Competitive advantage is further maintained by ensuring hospital employees are fully trained in their areas of expertise.  The c-level executives must be organized and detail oriented to manage multiple projects as well as staff and vendors.

 

These administrators are employed by hospitals that are local, state, federal, church, military or corporately owned. The institutions Business Development professional’s daily activities vary greatly based on bed size, number of patients they care for and whether the institution is a long term acute care, physical rehabilitation, psychiatric, children’s, or general medical/surgical hospital. Business Development Officers rely on new technology enhancements, continuing education programs, learning new managerial skills and techniques, attending trade shows, and reading medical and business journals to stay current in their field.
